Abstract

Menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life characterized by the permanent cessation of menstruation due to declining ovarian follicular function. Most women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55 years. The perimenopausal and menopausal periods may be accompanied by various physical and psychological changes; therefore, adequate knowledge is essential to help women understand these changes and adopt appropriate health-maintenance practices. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of perimenopausal and menopausal women through health education in Tanjung Mulia Hilir Urban Village. The activity employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 10 respondents. The respondents were women experiencing perimenopause or menopause. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the health education intervention. The education was delivered directly using a poster containing information on the definition of menopause, its signs and symptoms, physical and psychological changes, and strategies for coping with menopause. Before the intervention, most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge, comprising 6 respondents (60%); 3 respondents (30%) had a good level of knowledge, while 1 respondent (10%) had a poor level of knowledge. Following the intervention, all respondents demonstrated a good level of knowledge, totaling 10 respondents (100%). These findings indicate an improvement in knowledge after the provision of health education. Menopause-related health education should be provided continuously by healthcare professionals to help women understand the changes that occur during the perimenopausal and menopausal periods.
